Use categories to organize inventory and make products easier to find and manage.
Why Use Categories?
Categories help you:
- Organize large product catalogs
- Find products quickly
- Generate category-specific reports
- Improve online shop navigation
- Analyze sales by product type
Creating a Category
Navigate to Inventory > Categories and click “Add Category” or “New Category”.
Enter:
- Category Name – e.g., Electronics, Clothing, Food
- Description – Optional category details
- Category Image – Optional image for online shop
Click “Save”.
Assigning Products to Categories
During Product Creation
Select category from dropdown when adding new products.
For Existing Products
- Go to product details
- Click “Edit”
- Select category from dropdown
- Save changes
Bulk Assignment
Assign multiple products at once:
- Select products from inventory list
- Click “Bulk Actions” > “Assign Category”
- Choose category
- Apply
Creating Subcategories
Organize categories hierarchically:
- Go to Categories
- Click “Add Category”
- Select “Parent Category”
- Enter subcategory name
- Save
Example: Clothing > Men’s Wear > Shirts
Managing Categories
Editing Categories
- Find category in list
- Click “Edit”
- Update name, description, or image
- Save
Deleting Categories
Before deleting, reassign products to another category:
- Click “Delete” on category
- Choose new category for products
- Confirm deletion
Empty categories can be deleted without reassignment.
Default Category
Set a default category for uncategorized products:
- Go to Settings > Inventory
- Select default category
- Save
New products without assigned category use this default.
Category Reports
View sales and inventory by category:
- Go to Reports > Product Reports
- Filter by category
- See performance per category
Identify which categories drive most revenue.
Category Display Order
Reorder categories for online shop navigation:
- Go to Categories
- Drag categories to reorder
- Top categories appear first in shop menu
